“Nothing is more precious than being in the present moment. Fully alive. Fully aware.”
In 2006 Stephanie undertook a foundation year in meditation and Tibetan buddhism with the international organisation of Rigpa. Working in the newspaper industry was taking its toll. Her stress levels were high and she wanted to learn skills to slow down and quieten her mind. Investing in meditation one night a week for a year was the best gift she gave herself. After the first six weeks people were noticing the difference in her face and commenting on how relaxed she looked!
Her belief is that we need to train the brain, just like we exercise to build and maintain healthy muscles and skeletal system. It is vital to take time out and quietly sit still and train a focused and calm mind – ready to take on what comes our way in life.
A regular meditation practice – no matter how short – will help rewire your brain and your nervous system’s ability to handle stress better.
A meditation and pranayama session will focus on the breath, with guided relaxation. You will develop concentration and a mindful approach while maintaining your attention to the breath and sensations that you may feel.
The goal of a session is to leave you feeling centred, calm and relaxed with a renewed spaciousness in your mind, a mind ready to focus on daily living without feeling burdened and distracted.
Ten years ago Stephanie’s meditation journey began. She has been practising or trying to practice ever since.
